The Artwork
Ti Tree Lakes is inspired by Tallows Creek on Arakwal Country, where Nickolla's grandmother was born on Country. The changing sandbanks and waters, and the healing properties of ti tree water, hold stories of women gathering for women's business and birth.
Part of Nickolla's Ngalawaa ma lee la ngali (Gathering Together) body of work, the artwork honours the sacred role Country has played in guiding, protecting and sustaining mothers and families across generations.
